BRS accuses Revanth Reddy of turning Nalgonda public meeting into political show
The BRS criticised Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for allegedly using the Nalgonda public meeting for political attacks instead of announcing development measures. Party leaders accused the Congress government of neglecting the district and challenged the Chief Minister to debate its performance.
Hyderabad: Stepping up its attack on Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, the BRS charged that he had converted the recent public meeting in Nalgonda into a platform for political rhetoric while failing to announce any tangible benefits for the district. The BRS leaders dared him to hold a discussion on the initiatives taken by the ruling Congress as against the previous BRS regime in the erstwhile Nalgonda district.
Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan on Monday, former MLC Karne Prabhakar said the Chief Minister had used the meeting for self-praise and criticism of the Opposition instead of outlining a development agenda. He said Congress activists were placed under house arrest to prevent them from questioning the government, while Munugode MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy had stayed away from the meeting.
Rejecting Revanth Reddy’s claims on the State’s debt, Prabhakar accused the Congress government of sharply increasing borrowings in the last two-and-a-half years. He credited the previous BRS government for the rise in paddy production in Nalgonda, attributing it to irrigation projects, SRSP water supply and canal works undertaken during K Chandrashekhar Rao’s tenure by utilising the loans raised.
He also said the Chief Minister had made no progress on the SLBC tunnel project while continuing to target BRS leaders K Chandrashekhar Rao, KT Rama Rao and T Harish Rao on every possible occasion. According to him, surveys indicating declining public support had made the Chief Minister increasingly defensive.
Former MLAs Bollam Mallaiah Yadav and Chirumarthi Lingaiah accused the Congress government of neglecting Nalgonda despite repeated visits by the Chief Minister. They said the undivided Nalgonda district’s visible development was largely the result of projects executed during the BRS regime. They stated that the Chief Minister’s speech had failed to resonate with the public.
BRS leader Balaraju Yadav also criticised Revanth Reddy over his remarks on family politics, pointing out that several Congress leaders like K Jana Reddy, N Uttam Kumar Reddy and Komatireddy Venkat Reddy had multiple family members holding elected positions and accused the Chief Minister of adopting double standards.
