Sangareddy: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) is set to win the Indresham Municipality after an independent councillor joined the party ahead of the chairperson and vice-chairperson elections.
The development is expected to decide the chairperson’s fate in the newly created municipality, with the election scheduled for Monday.
Of the 18 wards, the BRS secured nine, while the Congress won six and the BJP two. Independent candidate S Lavanya emerged victorious after a tie with BRS candidate K Lavanya. The returning officer decided the winner by a coin toss, which favoured the independent.
The setback left the BRS one ward short of a majority and caused initial concern within the party. However, hours after her victory, S Lavanya joined the BRS in the presence of Patancheru MLA Gudem Mahipal Reddy, easing the party’s path to forming the municipal body.
