BRS alleges Congress plotting to scrap Kalyana Lakshmi, Shaadi Mubarak
BRS general secretary RS Praveen Kumar alleged that the Congress government was conspiring to scrap Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak schemes. He questioned its failure to file a counter-affidavit and defend the welfare programmes in the High Court.
Hyderabad: BRS general secretary RS Praveen Kumar raised concern that the Congress government was conspiring to scrap the Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak schemes. He cited the government’s failure to file a counter and defend the schemes in the High Court as part of the conspiracy.
Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan on Thursday, Praveen Kumar said the schemes introduced during the K Chandrashekhar Rao government had benefited SC, ST, BC and minority families. He stated that the Revanth Reddy government had stalled Kalyana Lakshmi payments in the name of verification. “But without filing a counter and defending the schemes in the court, the Congress appears to be planning to scrap them altogether,” he argued.
His remarks followed the High Court directions stopping implementation of eight government orders in a single day. He questioned why the government had failed to file its response in the court and why the Advocate General had not been asked to defend the schemes.
The BRS leader questioned the role of BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, who is the nodal Minister for Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak, asking why the government did not review the court case. He alleged that the government was targeting BRS welfare schemes while diverting public funds towards large contractors. He demanded that the government immediately file a counter-affidavit and clarify its position on the schemes.
Former Minister Satyavathi Rathod stated that the schemes were the brainchild of former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao for upliftment of marginalised sections. She suspected the role of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy himself behind the court petition. She demanded that the government defend the schemes in court.
Former MLA Methuku Anand alleged that the government was attempting to erase the legacy of K Chandrashekhar Rao by weakening his welfare programmes. He said that while Chandrashekhar Rao implemented the Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak schemes without even listing them in the election manifesto, the Congress, which promised one tola of gold, delayed its implementation and has now effectively stalled it.
The BRS leaders demanded immediate action to ensure that eligible beneficiaries receive assistance under the Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak schemes. They warned that the government would face people’s wrath if the schemes were discontinued.
