Hyderabad: Expressing concern over the hardships faced by government employees, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has extended support to their protest and pledged to stand with them in their struggle.

The employees have decided to stage protests across the State on August 27. They are also proposing a mahadharna in Hyderabad on September 10 if the government fails to address their demands.

Former Minister V Srinivas Goud said lakhs of employees had believed the Congress party’s promises and worked hard for its victory. However, the Congress government had betrayed them after coming to power, he alleged.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, Goud said, “We will not tolerate any harassment or trouble caused to the employees under any circumstances.”

He alleged that EHS contributions had been deducted from employees’ salaries for the past three months. However, employees were being turned away from hospitals as the EHS scheme was not functioning. He said the government should take responsibility if any retired employee died due to the lack of access to healthcare.

“Why isn’t EHS working in hospitals when the government has been forcibly collecting EHS contributions from employees for three months?” Goud asked.

He said PRC revisions and DA payments had a high number of pending cases during the Congress government’s tenure. Similarly, 4.9 lakh outsourcing employees had been deceived after the government promised to establish a dedicated corporation for them, he alleged.

The former Minister also alleged that some posts in the Irrigation Department were being sold for Rs 3 lakh. “They are plundering water resources and now stealing job opportunities as well,” he criticised.

Goud said the Congress had promised to abolish the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) in its election manifesto. Despite nearly three years in power, the government had failed to abolish it, he alleged. He said the BRS would continue to fight on behalf of government employees until the CPS was abolished.
