BRS announces week-long protests against Congress ‘failure’ to fulfil promises

Hyderabad: Coinciding with the Congress government completing 1,000 days in office, the BRS announced a week-long series of protests from September 2 to 8, to expose the latter’s failure to implement election promises. The party will also organise a series of programmes on September 10 in support of protests by teachers and government employees.

Announcing the programme schedule at Telangana Bhavan on Thursday, former Minister S Niranjan Reddy said the protests would focus on the Congress government’s 420 promises and failures across different sectors. The BRS will release a charge sheet on the government’s performance and unveil a special logo at Telangana Bhavan on September 1.

On September 2, the party will organise dharnas at constituency headquarters, display “debt cards” (Baaki Cards) listing out pending promises and take out rallies carrying 420-foot-long flexis on the alleged failure to implement its assurances.

On September 3, farmers’ conferences will be held on agriculture, irrigation, power, urea, Rythu Bharosa and Rythu Bima. The party will also organise protests in Hyderabad and other urban areas over the misuse of the 22A prohibited lands list.

Meetings involving senior citizens, persons with disabilities and women, along with “Vanta Varpu” programmes, will be held on September 4. Rallies will be organised over pending fee reimbursement, the job calendar and other promises made under the Youth Declaration on September 5.

The party will stage protests on local issuess in Adilabad and Singareni constituencies on September 6, an autorickshaw rally in Hyderabad and village-level protests over alleged destruction of rural infrastructure across the State.

On September 7, BRS leaders will submit representations to officials at district and mandal headquarters during the Praja Vani programme on various issues. The party will hold press conferences at district headquarters to review the week-long agitation and submit representations to the statues of Dr BR Ambedkar on September 8.

The BRS also decided to extend its solidarity to the protesting employees and teachers unions, and participate in protests across the State on September 10.

Niranjan Reddy said the Congress leaders used guarantees, declarations and smart cards to win the elections, but did not implement them after coming to power. Instead, he said the ruling Congress derailed the development and welfare achieved during the previous BRS regime. He challenged the Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, to explain what promises had been fulfilled in Telangana. He urged people to question the government over its performance as it completes 1,000 days in office.

Former Minister Mohd Mahmood Ali, BRS Assembly whip KP Vivekananda, MLC Shabhipur Raju, BRS general secretary Soma Bharat Kumar, senior leaders G Deviprasad, Tula Uma, BRSV State president Gellu Srinivas Yadav and others also participated.
