Hyderabad: In the wake of the alleged misuse of official machinery to influence voting and assaults on party leaders by the ruling Congress, the BRS appointed senior leaders as special in-charges for eight municipalities where elections for the chairman and vice-chairman posts are scheduled to be held on Tuesday.

BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Monday reviewed the ground situation with local leadership, constituency MLAs and party in-charges amid allegations that the ruling Congress was resorting to illegal kidnappings, threats and misuse of the police to influence the outcome. He assured local leaders of full support from the party and directed senior functionaries to immediately move to their assigned municipalities to monitor the process closely.

The move comes as the BRS expressed confidence in securing chairman posts in all eight municipalities if elections are conducted in a free and fair manner. The party in-charges include Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council S Madhusudanachari, former Minister Satyavathi Rathod and former MLA Peddi Sudarshan Reddy in Thorrur; Legislative Council Deputy Chairman Banda Prakash and MLC Pochampally Srinivas Reddy in Jangaon; MLA Kova Lakshmi in Kyathanpalli; and MLA Anil Jadhav in Khanapur.

Other in-charges are MLA Kotha Prabhakar Reddy and MLC Yadava Reddy in Indresham; former Minister Jogu Ramanna in Kagaznagar; MLAs Chinta Prabhakar and V Sunitha Lakshma Reddy in Zaheerabad; and BRSLP deputy leader P Sabitha Indra Reddy and MLC Shabhipur Raju in Ibrahimpatnam.

The BRS leadership said the elections were being taken very seriously, particularly in municipalities where the party has a numerical edge. It maintained that alleged machinations by the Congress would not prevent the victory of its candidates if elections were held in a free and fair manner.
