Hyderabad: BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan strongly condemned the State government’s attempts to demolish houses of Dalit families who have been residing for nearly 60 to 70 years in Cherabanda Raju Nagar Colony near Bhadrakali Temple in Warangal city, calling the action extremely barbaric.
On Wednesday, Sravan, along with former Chief Whip Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar and members of the BRS Party Legal Cell, along with the affected families, met the Chairman of the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC), Justice Shameem Akther, and submitted a formal complaint.
Sravan criticized the government, stating that even before people could forget the attacks on tribals in Lagacharla, the authorities were now attempting to forcibly seize and demolish Dalit houses in Warangal in the name of development, projects and model roads, without following due process or issuing prior notices. He described this as a clear example of ‘Bulldozer Raj’.
Condemning the cutting of drinking water connections and threats to disconnect electricity as inhuman measures aimed at forcing families to vacate their homes, he expressed concern that children were unable to attend school due to lack of drinking water, calling the situation deeply unfortunate.
Despite the victims meeting the District Collector and Commissioner and submitting representations, there was no response, he said. Finally, they approached the Human Rights Commission, Sravan said, adding that Justice Shameem Akther had responded with sensitivity, observed that the issue involves constitutional violations, and assured that immediate directions would be issued. The Commission has said that implementation would be reviewed on March 9, he said.
Sravan also called upon Dalit and tribal organizations across Telangana to unite and fight against such unconstitutional actions apart from demanding that the Collector and officials implement the Human Rights Commission’s orders in letter and spirit and safeguard the rights and dignity of Dalits.
