Hyderabad: BRS leader Dr R S Praveen Kumar has launched a scathing attack on the Congress government, for pushing Telangana’s education sector into crisis due to negligence and incompetence. He held Chief Minister Revanth Reddy directly responsible for the deteriorating condition of Gurukuls and Pratibha schools.

Speaking to mediapersons at Telangana Bhavan on Friday, Praveen Kumar lamented the declining interest in Gurukuls, citing the drastic drop in applications for fifth-grade admissions.

“Under former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s rule, three students competed for one seat. Now, even after extension of deadlines thrice, not even 80,000 students have applied for 40,000 seats,” he said, blaming the Congress government’s mismanagement.

He slammed Revanth Reddy for canceling entrance exams for Pratibha schools, calling it a conspiracy to weaken institutions that have produced doctors and engineers.

“Revanth Reddy has no understanding of the education sector. During the BRS regime, staff salaries were paid on time, special schools were set up for military training, and Gurukuls produced top professionals. Now, around 57 students died due to various issues,” he said.

Citing the tragic deaths of students in Kulkacharla and Balanagar, Praveen Kumar accused the government of indifference. He questioned the fate of SC and ST sub-plan funds, citing the delay in the release of fees for SC students pursuing medicine.

He also charged the Congress government with discrimination against national badminton gold medalist Nandini, who belongs to a backward caste, and demanded that the government announce Rs 1 crore for her achievement.
