Hyderabad: BRS senior leader and former Minister Koppula Eshwar accused Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Welfare Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar of neglecting government residential welfare institutions. Instead of addressing the issues plaguing Gurukul schools, the Minister was misleading the public by blaming the previous BRS government for the current condition, he said.
Speaking at Telangana Bhavan on Tuesday, Eshwar said over 110 students had died in Gurukuls during the Congress government’s 22-month tenure, calling the deaths as “State murders”. He held the Chief Minister and the Minister responsible for these students’ deaths.
“Every day, incidents occur, yet the government is showing no concern for students’ plight. Ministers are busy attacking Harish Rao for raising concerns, instead of addressing core issues,” he charged.
The former Minister reminded that under former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s rule, the number of Gurukuls increased to 1,024 schools catering to six lakh students and attracted attention from other States. He said buildings and facilities were strengthened then, while Laxman Kumar himself failed to complete Gurukul infrastructure in his Dharmapuri constituency.
He accused the government of GO 17-related corruption, withholding payments to 9,000 contractors for months, and committing a Rs 600 crore scam in the supply of eggs and chicken to Gurukul schools. He said contract staff were not paid salaries for five months. “Instead of spreading lies to please the Chief Minister, Laxman Kumar should visit the families of these students and address the issues plaguing these institutions,” he said.
