Peddapalli: Mild tension prevailed for a while after municipal officials removed a pylon constructed by the BRS government in memory of developmental activities at Gandhinagar in Godavarikhani on Tuesday.

Officials from Ramagundam Municipal Corporation razed the pylon using an earthmover. Though the reason for the move is not known, it was alleged that the officials removed the pylon on the instructions of local MLA Makkan Singh Thakur.

On receiving information, former Ramagundam MLA Korukunti Chandar rushed to the spot and expressed anger against the officials. He objected to the dismantling of the pylon and stopped the driver from razing the structure. He picked up an argument with the police personnel present at the site, resulting in mild tension.

Chandar demanded that Makkan Singh tender an apology for illegally removing the structure. He announced that they would lay siege to the legislator’s camp office if the demolition was not stopped. The former MLA said that the Congress was unable to digest the development witnessed during the BRS regime.

He recounted that a drinking water scheme, IT and industrial parks, and some other developmental projects were taken up under the leadership of the then Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao.
