BRS captures maiden chairperson of Asifabad municipality; Election of Kyathanpalli, Kagaznagar civic bodies heads postponed

Adilabad: The BRS captured the post of Asifabad municipality chairperson during a special meeting held for election of the post on Monday, surprising many.
The BRS candidate Mengre Akash was elected as the chairperson, while MD Ahmed was chosen as the vice-chairperson of the 20-membered Asifabad which was created recently.
The BRS succeeded in providing majority with nine councilors of the party, Gunda Sneha, a councilor of the Congress and ex-officio member Kova Laxmi raising hands in favor of Akash.
Earlier, the Congress, which had a strength of just seven councillors, failed to achieve the majority and it could not get the chairperson post.
Gunda Sneha is likey to face action for not obeying the party whip and for supporting the BRS. Two factions–one led by former MLC Puranam Satish Kumar and the other operated by AShyam Naik–affected prospects of the Congress.
