Hyderabad: The BRS has filed formal complaints with the Election Commission of India, State Chief Electoral Officer and Returning Officers alleging large-scale distribution of money by Congress leaders and workers at Booth No. 203 in Vengalrao Nagar Division during polling for the Jubilee Hills byelection on Tuesday.
According to BRS leaders and legal cell representatives, some Congress activists were openly distributing cash to voters near the polling station to influence votes in favour of party candidate V Naveen Yadav. They said this was in clear violation of the Model Code of Conduct and the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
In their complaint, the BRS leaders accused local police of negligence, stating that officers turned a blind eye despite witnessing the illegal activity. The BRS demanded that senior police officers or CAPF personnel be immediately deployed in the area and that the erring police officials be suspended or transferred.
Calling the incident a corrupt practice undermining the democratic process, the BRS urged the ECI to seize the money, register a case, and order an immediate inquiry to ensure free and fair polling in the constituency.
