Sangareddy: Chaos erupted at a government programme in Hathnoora mandal headquarters on Saturday after Congress leaders and cadre forced Narsapur BRS MLA V Sunitha Lakshma Reddy to perform a palabhishekam to a portrait of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy during the Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak cheques distribution.

The Congress leaders insisted the ritual be performed since the event was a government initiative, arguing heatedly with the MLA when she declined. Despite her repeated requests to not be compelled into doing something against her wishes, they went ahead and performed the palabhishekam forcibly.

Police personnel attempted to prevent the situation from escalating, but tensions flared between Congress and BRS workers, leading to a scuffle at the event. Congress workers allegedly pushed police personnel multiple times as they tried to manage the crowd and ensure the smooth conduct of the programme.

Protocol issues have been a recurring concern in the Narsapur constituency, with officials reportedly giving prominence over the sitting MLA to Congress leader Avula Raji Reddy, who lost the 2023 Assembly election.
