Hyderabad: Corporators belonging to the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) on Wednesday demanded an unconditional apology from the GHMC Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi for what they called abusive language used by her targeting the BRS members and warned of “serious consequences” if she failed to mend her ways.

Addressing the media at Telangana Bhavan, BRS corporators Suneetha and Dedeepya Rao alleged that the Mayor had attempted physical assault during the recent council meeting and behaved with some of the members with vengeance. They complained that when the Mayor was abusing them, microphones were switched off, but BRS members were denied the microphone even when they spoke politely. An attempt was made to physically attack Suneetha. “You won and became Mayor only on a BRS ticket, don’t forget that, ” they said.Challenging the Mayor to resign, contest on a Congress ticket, and win if she had the guts, they said a situation would arise where the Mayor, who came from abroad, would have to go back abroad.

They warned that if the Mayor did not control her tongue, there will be severe repercussions. Alleged that Dalit organisations were furious over the Mayor insulting a Dalit corporator and demanded an apology. The corporators alleged that the Mayor behaved like a queen sitting on a throne and acted like a dictator.

“She is also a corporator just like us. She should not forget that,” they said, questioning what was wrong in insisting on a discussion about protecting Greater Hyderabad lands. Stating that a Mayor must treat all parties equally and that the BRS corporators were not the Mayor’s servants, they accused the Mayor of abusing BRS corporators, despite winning on a BRS ticket.
