Mancherial: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), in alliance with the Communist Party of India, secured power in the Kyathanpalli municipality after winning 10 wards, while its ally secured four of the total 22 wards, opening the party’s account in the municipal polls and dealing a blow to the ruling Congress.

Officials said nominees of the BRS registered victories in Wards 4, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 19 and 21, while its ally CPI won in Wards 1, 6, 8 and 22 of the civic body. The Congress won seven wards. The results jolted the Congress as the municipality is located in the Chennur Assembly constituency, represented by Labour Minister Dr G Vivek.

BRS district president Balka Suman had joined hands with the CPI to contest the polls and helped the party win Kyathanpalli municipality. Congress leaders drew flak for allocating tickets to newcomers allegedly after accepting bribes.

Meanwhile, the BRS is giving stiff competition to the Congress in Bellampalli and Kagaznagar municipalities, as per the results of the first and second rounds of counting. The BRS and Congress won eight wards each in the 34-member Bellampalli civic body. In Kagaznagar municipality, which has 30 wards, the BRS and Congress clinched five wards each. The BJP stood in second position with four wards there.
