Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) on Tuesday strongly condemned the insensitive and derogatory remarks made by Ministers Thummala Nageswara Rao and Ponnam Prabhakar against Maganti Sunitha, the party’s Jubilee Hills bypoll candidate and wife of the late MLA Maganti Gopinath. The party leaders demanded immediate apologies from the Ministers.
Reacting to the remarks, former Minister V Srinivas Goud criticised them for lacking moral and human values. “Thummala Nageswara Rao should be ashamed of himself. If Rajiv Gandhi’s family could campaign after his death, why cannot Sunitha’s children campaign for her? The Ministers must immediately apologise,” he said.
He said the comments reflected the Congress’s arrogance and lack of respect towards women. “These Ministers have insulted not just Maganti Sunitha but every woman in Telangana with their insensitive remarks,” he added.
BRS MLC Tata Madhu also condemned the remarks, stating that the Congress leadership’s fear of defeat in Jubilee Hills had driven them to disgraceful personal attacks. “It is appalling that Ministers would stoop so low. They should apologise to the women of Telangana for their indecent language,” he said, adding that the party stood firmly with Sunitha and her family.
