Hyderabad: BRS leader and former Minister V. Srinivas Goud criticised the Congress government’s handling of the Backward Classes (BC) reservation issue and called for the implementation of 42 percent reservations with constitutional support.

Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan alongside BRS leaders Anjaya Yadav, Palle Ravikumar, Kuruv Vijay Kumar, and Sadanandam, Goud stated that the Congress government’s announcement regarding reservations was misleading.

Goud emphasised that BRS has consistently supported BC reservations without facing judicial setbacks. He argued that the Congress government’s plan to implement the 42 percent BC reservation through an ordinance lacks legal validity. He said similar ordinances issued in Maharashtra and Bihar were struck down by the courts .

“Reservations through a Government Order are not sustainable, yet Congress leaders claim we lack understanding,” Goud said. He warned that if courts reject the government’s GOs, the responsibility will rest with the grand old party’s leadership.

Goud also accused Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of failing to secure Presidential approval for the BC Reservation Bill, despite earlier commitments to lead an all-party delegation to Delhi.

“The CM promised to take all-party leaders to Delhi for the President’s approval, but he has not followed it,” Goud added.
