BRS demands for CBI probe into alleged scam in Anganwadi phone procurement

BRS leader Y Satish Reddy challenged Minister D Seethakka to order a CBI probe into alleged irregularities in Anganwadi phone procurement. He questioned the purchase of 4G devices at higher prices and raised concerns over tender processes

Hyderabad: Former REDCO chairman Y Satish Reddy dared Minister D Seethakka to seek a CBI investigation into the alleged irregularities in procurement of mobile phones for Anganwadi workers. He raised strong objection to the Minister’s remarks against the BRS leaders for exposing the scam, asserting that unlike her, they would respond only with concrete evidence.

In a statement, Satish Reddy questioned the State government’s decision to procure 4G devices despite a reported Central directive favouring 5G-enabled phones. He alleged that while other States opted for 5G devices, Telangana distributed outdated 4G phones at inflated prices. Citing market comparisons, he said similar phones were available at significantly lower rates, raising concerns over pricing and tender processes.


Accusing the Minister of evading accountability, he said the government must explain why tenders were issued for 4G phones and the devices were procured at a higher price than the market rates. “If there is no wrongdoing, the Minister herself should recommend a CBI inquiry,” he asserted.

Satish Reddy also suspected a Congress-BJP nexus, as BJP leaders remained silent on the issue despite the involvement of Central funds. He demanded that the State government, the Minister and officials concerned initiate measures to address the allegations, failing which it would only strengthen suspicions of collusion.
