BRS demands judicial probe into deaths of three infants at RIMS Adilabad

The BRS has demanded a judicial probe by a sitting judge into the deaths of three infants at RIMS Adilabad following an alleged AC cylinder blast. Party general secretary RS Praveen Kumar also questioned hospital safety, equipment maintenance and monitoring.

Hyderabad: The BRS has demanded a judicial probe by a sitting judge into the death of three infants in the neonatal ward of RIMS hospital in Adilabad, following an alleged AC cylinder blast. It termed the deaths as a State murder and emphasised that the circumstances leading to the deaths must be independently investigated.

The BRS also sought immediate measures to ensure the safety of the other infants and questioned the decision to shift victims from a super-speciality hospital such as RIMS to local private hospitals, raising concerns over the government healthcare system.

In a statement, the party general secretary RS Praveen Kumar questioned the government’s preparedness and maintenance of medical equipment in the State-run hospitals. He asked who procured and maintained the equipment and whether adequate funds were being provided for the purpose. He said the government failed to adequately monitor hospitals and referred to recent incidents, including thefts at TIMS Sanath Nagar and the roof collapse at MGM Hospital in Warangal.

Citing reports of the Chief Minister’s family investing in a corporate hospital chain, he questioned why the Chief Minister was not extending similar care and caution in ensuring that the government hospitals remain safe for their patients. He demanded that the government make public the relevant note files on hospital monitoring and instructions issued by the Chief Minister and Health Minister.

Referring to the ruling Congress as El Congo (akin to El Nino), the BRS leader said instead of ensuring quality medical care for citizens, the Congress government was busy resorting to political vendetta against Opposition leaders and called the visits of Congress leaders to the properties of BRS leaders shameful.

He alleged that the government was diverting attention from the incident through political actions and demanded that protests be staged at the residences of the Chief Minister and the Health Minister over their callousness, or that they resign from their posts.
