Hyderabad: BRS legislators on Monday alleged that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) ward delimitation was carried out in an unscientific and arbitrary manner, without public consultation, after the merger of neighbouring municipalities. They demanded an immediate review by submitting a representation to the GHMC Commissioner, seeking corrections and adherence to statutory norms.
Speaking to mediapersons here on Monday, Sanathnagar MLA and former Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav said the creation of nearly 300 wards appeared to have been done by officials in haste, while sitting in an office. He pointed out that even the existing 150 wards did not have adequate officers and warned that the issue would be raised in the GHMC Council meeting.
He also objected to the politicisation of the flex banner issue and demanded at least one month’s time to invite objections. “If mistakes are not rectified, we will approach the court,” he declared.
Former Minister and Medchal MLA Ch Mallareddy expressed concern over the restructuring of the Medchal area, recalling that it was earlier largely rural with wider representation. He questioned the logic of reducing representation to 16 corporators and said areas like Keesara, on the outskirts of Hyderabad, could not be equated with upscale localities such as Banjara Hills.
MLC Dasoju Sravan accused the Congress of undermining democratic governance, stating that ward boundaries were redrawn arbitrarily as the party lacked a strong presence in the GHMC. He insisted that delimitation must strictly follow constitutional and legal provisions and warned of legal action if due process was not followed.
