Hyderabad: BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan on Friday demanded Rs 1 crore ex gratia for the families of two migrant workers killed in a scaffolding collapse at Nizam Colony in Tolichowki. He also sought free corporate hospital treatment for the injured and criminal prosecution of the builder and site supervisor.
Tirupathi Rao (31) and Adinarayana (47), both natives of Srikakulam district in Andhra Pradesh, died when scaffolding at an under-construction building collapsed on March 5. Three others, including R Ramesh, M Ramesh and auto driver Ali Ahmed, were seriously injured.
Sravan said the builder had permission for only a G+2 structure but was constructing seven floors, accusing GHMC officials of failing to act against the illegal construction. He said basic safety measures such as safety nets and harnesses were absent at the site. Terming the incident an institutional murder caused by administrative negligence, he sought suspension of the GHMC officials concerned. He appealed to the Andhra Pradesh government to intervene to secure justice for the victims’ families.
