Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) expressed its concerns over rising crime rate, especially attacks on women in the State and wanted the Congress government to control the crime.

Citing the DGP’s annual report, BRS MLA Palla Rajeshwar Reddy said the crime rate had increased by 22 percent in the State last year. Similarly, crime rate against women also had increased by 13.75 percent, he said during discussion on demands for grants in the House on Wednesday.

The BRS MLA from Jangaon further said the police stations were not being sanctioned maintenance expenditure since the last five months and maintenance of surveillance cameras was being neglected.

“Circle Inspectors and ACPs and other officers were being transferred for every three to four months,” Rajeshwar Reddy said.

Later in the day, Huzurabad MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy reminded that many unidentified persons attacked his home and family members in the past. Despite a complaint being lodged over the issue, not a single person was arrested in connection with the incident, he said. Narsapur MLA Sunitha Laxma Reddy said a few people had attacked her house as well in Narsapuram on Vinayaka Chavithi festival last year. After damaging the gate, a few people had barged into the house and attacked the occupants. They even burst fire crackers and the police granted them station bail and let off, she said.

“Is this the way security is extended to a woman MLA? ” Sunitha Laxma Reddy asked.
