Hyderabad: BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan accused Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of running Telangana like a police State and turning the police into tools to settle political scores. He said over 5,000 false cases had been filed against BRS activists and leaders to harass them for questioning the government.

“Questioning or protesting against the government has become a crime in the State. The police are acting at the behest of their political bosses, at the cost of the rising crime rate in the State,” he said, citing a 43 per cent rise in crime and a 28.9 per cent spike in rapes in the State.

Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan on Thursday, Sravan criticised the Chief Minister for not conducting a review of the Home department. He said Revanth Reddy was misusing the Integrated Command Control Centre for political surveillance. He vowed that the BRS would continue its fight despite repression.

BRS leader G Devi Prasad condemned lathi charges on employees, students and farmers for practicing their democratic right to protest against the government’s failures. He said though the Congress assured democracy as its seventh guarantee, the government was arresting people even for social media retweets.

MLC Deshapathi Srinivas and BRS leader Y Sathish Reddy were also present.
