Hyderabad: BRS leaders have welcomed the Supreme Court’s intervention in the Kancha Gachibowli tree felling issue, calling it a victory for students, activists, and environmentalists who fought to protect Hyderabad’s green cover.
The Supreme Court took suo motu cognizance of the issue, staying all activities in Kancha Gachibowli until further orders and directed a detailed report from the Central Empowered Committee by April 16.
Reacting to the court orders, BRS working president KT Rama Rao expressed gratitude to the apex court, crediting the inspiring and relentless struggle of University of Hyderabad (UoH) students for the positive verdict. “This is a victory for the youngsters whose determination resulted in this positive verdict. Thanks to all activists, celebrities, environmentalists, and media for supporting this noble cause,” he said.
Former Minister T Harish Rao termed the Supreme Court’s stay on tree felling a tight slap on Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s actions. “Yesterday, the Congress was reprimanded for being stubborn on defections; today, the Supreme Court has been harsh on the government’s handling of UoH lands. The law will not remain silent, if those in government misuse power,” he said. He hailed the ruling as a landmark win for students and activists, calling it a necessary judicial check on a government failing to protect the environment.
BRS MLC K Kavitha also applauded the court’s decision, stating, “Grateful to the Supreme Court for halting the reckless destruction of UoH’s green cover. This is a victory for democracy and the people’s voice.” She also lauded the relentless spirit of students, faculty, and activists, who stood firm in their fight for justice.
