Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao mounted a sharp counterattack on Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, rejecting his remarks that abstaining parties in the Vice-Presidential election were indirectly backing the BJP. He asserted that the BRS was accountable only to the people of Telangana, but neither to the BJP nor the Congress.
Accusing Congress of arrogance and entitlement, Rama Rao said this very attitude had driven the party into irrelevance across much of India. “Jairam Ji, this sense of entitlement and arrogance is what made Congress fail in contemporary politics. ‘Either you are with us or else you’re with them’ claim is a silly argument, posturing as if the nation is bipolar,” he said.
Asserting that the BRS was accountable only to the people of Telangana, he declared, “We are neither the B-team of Congress nor the BJP. We are the A-team of Telangana people. Please focus on your own failures and spare us the tantrums.”
The BRS working president argued that Congress continued to view Indian politics through an outdated binary, forcing regional parties into camps, a mindset that has already cost the party electoral ground across most States. “Our only allegiance is to the people of Telangana. Their welfare, their aspirations and their voice in Delhi is what we represent, not the power games of Delhi-based parties,” he remarked.
He advised Congress leaders to reflect on their declining electoral footprint and governance failures instead of attempting to discredit regional outfits through false binaries.
