BRS issues whip to party cadre abstain from voting in Hyderabad local body MLC polls

Hyderabad: With the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) deciding to stay away from the upcoming MLC elections under the Hyderabad Local Authorities Constituency on Thursday, a party whip has been issued instructing all eligible BRS voters to abstain from voting.
The decision was formally declared by BRS working president KT Rama Rao following a meeting with party corporators, MLAs, and MLCs from Greater Hyderabad. The electoral college comprises 84 GHMC corporators, 15 MLAs, and two MPs from Hyderabad district. Polling will be held on April 23, with counting scheduled for April 25.
With both the ruling Congress and BRS opting out, the contest is now set to be a straight fight between the BJP and the AIMIM. N Goutam Rao from BJP and sitting AIMIM MLC Mirza Riyaz ul Hasan Effendi filed their nominations to contest the polls.
