Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) on Monday launched a two-day Statewide agitation across Telangana, protesting against the Congress government’s alleged conspiracy to undermine the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP) and target former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao politically.
As part of the agitation, the party has planned dharnas, road blockades, bike rallies and other forms of protest in mandal and district headquarters on Monday and Tuesday.
In a teleconference with party leaders, BRS working president KT Rama Rao alleged that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy was colluding with the BJP to permanently shut down the Kaleshwaram project, which is Telangana’s lifeline, and divert river waters to Andhra Pradesh.
“Handing over Kaleshwaram to the CBI is nothing but a ploy to shut down the project. Revanth Reddy, who until yesterday opposed the CBI, suddenly changed his stance overnight. People must know who is behind this,” he said, terming it as a clear conspiracy hatched by the Congress and the BJP.
The BRS working president accused the Congress of joining hands with the BJP to defame Chandrashekhar Rao and weaken Telangana’s rights over river waters. He vowed not to get intimidated by such threatrics.
“Threats and cases are not new to us. We will fight legally, politically and on the streets of Telangana to protect the Kaleshwaram project,” he asserted.
