Mancherial/Kumram Bheem Asifabad: The BRS district president Balka Suman, former MLA Nadipelli Diwakar Rao and other party leaders were kept under house-arrest in view of elections to the governing council of Khanapur municipality on Sunday.

Suman, Diwakar Rao and Diwakar Rao were confined to their homes as a preventive measure in view of the elections which were postponed following a controversy over the process to Sunday. Suman criticized the Congress for suppressing the voice of the Opposition parties and for disrespecting the mandate of the electors in Khanapur. He urged the officials to conduct the election as per norms.

Meanwhile, Asifabad MLA Kova Laxmi and local leaders were also house-arrested in connection with the election. She slammed the Congress for arresting leaders of the BRS ahead of the elections. She said that the government was abusing its power by dishonoring decisions made by the councilors who extended their support for a councilor Ankam Mounika of the BJP.

On Saturday, the election process conducted as per an order issued by State Election Commission, was stalled when local MLA Vedma Bojju, who was participating in the election as an ex-officio member, raised an objection to the officials for asking Mounika, to show her strength based on alphabetical order and seven councillors supported her candidature.
