HYDERABAD: Senior BRS party leader Gaddam Srinivas Yadav on Monday urged the Hyderabad Police to shut down a club in Abids, alleging that illegal gambling activities were being conducted on its premises, resulting in youngsters losing their hard-earned money.

Srinivas Yadav met Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar and submitted a complaint against the club management, seeking a detailed inquiry and stringent action.

He alleged that the club was operating illegal gambling activities under political patronage. According to him, a former corporator and the local MLA were collecting monthly “mamool” (protection money) from the club management and shielding its activities.

The BRS leader also alleged that the local MLA was neglecting the welfare and development of the Goshamahal constituency, resulting in hardship for residents. The allegations have not been independently verified.

He said prompt intervention was necessary to prevent more families from being financially ruined due to gambling.
