HYDERABAD: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Minority Cell General Secretary Abdul Muqeet Chanda has strongly criticised the Congress government for delaying the restoration of water supply from the Kaleshwaram project, stating that farmers are paying the price for the ruling party’s political vendetta against the previous BRS government.
He said that at a time when the threat of El Niño is raising concerns over rainfall, water availability and agricultural prospects, the Congress government should have prioritised farmers’ interests instead of keeping the Kaleshwaram project embroiled in prolonged enquiries and political blame games.
“Had the Congress government focused on using the Kaleshwaram project effectively instead of using enquiries to target the BRS politically, farmers would have been in a far better position to face these difficult times. Today, farmers are struggling with uncertainty over irrigation water when they need government support the most,” Muqeet Chanda said.
He alleged that the Congress government had made the Kaleshwaram project a political weapon to discredit the previous BRS administration, allowing political considerations to overshadow the urgent needs of the farming community. He said the prolonged disruption of water supply had weakened farmers’ confidence and added to their anxieties over crop cultivation.
