Karimnagar: Senior BRS leader and former MP B Vinod Kumar demanded that the state government ensure the farmers begin paddy plantation by supplying water by operating Kannepalli pump house.
Since paddy seedlings are withering, the government should respond immediately and take steps to protect seedlings by supplying water.
Speaking to reporters here on Friday, Vinod Kumar said that farmers were facing problems due to lack of water to carry out agriculture activity. Since less rainfall has been recorded in the State, it is necessary to utilise available water properly. However, the government has completely failed to do so. Moreover, the government is showing negligence in lifting water from Kaleshwaram, he expressed anger.
How is it justified to cause hardship to lakhs of farmers by avoiding the lifting of water from Kannepalli pump house, Kumar questioned while seeking clarification from the government. Yellampalli, Mid Manair, Lower Manair Dams and all irrigation tanks located upstream of Medigadda have dried up. Such a pathetic situation is going to emerge very soon where these projects would not supply drinking water to the residents.
However, approximately 7 to 8 tmc of water is flowing downstream from Medigadda without any utility. There is a possibility to lift water from Kannepalli pump house without touching Medigadda barrage.
Presently, 96 meter water flow was there at Medigadda. According to irrigation experts, 93.5 to 94 meter water flow was enough to lift water from Kannepalli pump house, the BRS leader said and informed that there was a possibility to lift 20,000 cusecs of water per day.
The National Dam Safety Authority has not put any restriction on dumping water in Annaram and Sundilla barrages by lifting water from Kannepalli. If the Kannepalli pump house was operated, it was possible to take water to Yellampalli, MMD, LMD, Mallannasagar and Kondapochammadagar besides lifting water to Upper Manair.
Besides storing water in the SRSP rejuvenation scheme, all tanks under all the aforesaid projects could be filled. Though the BRS was advising this, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy was deliberately avoiding it, fearing that former CM K Chandrashekhar Rao would receive credit.
The farming community has been facing troubles due to the negligent attitude of Revanth Reddy and irrigation minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy.
