Hyderabad: Accusing the Congress government in the State of neglecting the education sector, law and order and agriculture, BRS leaders on Saturday demanded that the administration come out with an action plan to address the pressing issues of students.
Addressing a news conference at Telangana Bhavan, BRS leaders Dudimetla Balaraju Yadav, Shubhaprad Patel and K Vasudev Reddy demanded steps to release pending fee reimbursements, resolve Group-1 exam irregularities and provide relief for urea-starved farmers. They questioned the silence of key ministers and BJP leaders on such issues.
Balaraju Yadav lamented that the State was in a deteriorating condition. He pointed to rampant daytime robberies and thefts, questioning the whereabouts of Home Minister Anumula Revanth Reddy. “Where is the Education Minister when the government is pushing poor students away from education?” he asked, stressing that delayed fee reimbursements were forcing private colleges to threaten closures.
He criticised the government’s failure to disburse fee reimbursements under the Reimbursement of Tuition Fee (RTF) scheme for SC, ST, BC, EBC and minority students. Pending dues involving thousands of crores have put severe financial strain on institutions, with the Federation of Associations of Telangana Higher Education (FATHI) announcing an indefinite shutdown of private professional colleges from September 15.
“College managements are warning that they will close institutions because the government isn’t paying the arrears,” Yadav said, urging immediate release of funds and provision of hostel facilities.
