Hyderabad: BRS spokesperson Manne Krishank and others staged a protest at the Secunderabad Cantonment Board office on Sunday, and burnt copies of the Defence Ministry’s gazette that extended the nominated member’s term by another year.
Krishank accused the Centre of destroying democracy by neither merging the Cantonment with GHMC nor conducting elections since 2015. He said residents continue to suffer due to stalled permissions for building construction, drinking water issues, poor roads, lack of toilets, and unresolved land matters.
He alleged that while people wait for governance, BJP MPs and local leaders were busy lobbying in Delhi for posts and nominations. He said without public mandate, the nominated member was taking arbitrary decisions. He blamed both the BJP and the Congress for denying democratic rights to the Cantonment residents by delaying both merger and elections.
