BRS leaders detained ahead of CM’s visit to Kukatpally
Police detained BRS leader Patimeedi Jaganmohan Rao and several supporters in Kukatpally ahead of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s visit to inaugurate development works at Nallacheruvu. Locals, including displaced families, were reportedly prevented from attending the event.
Hyderabad: Tension prevailed in Kukatpally on Monday after police detained BRS leader and former chairman Patimeedi Jaganmohan Rao ahead of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s visit to inaugurate development works at Nallacheruvu. Several locals including BRS leaders and civic organisation leaders were also taken into custody.
According to BRS leaders, Jaganmohan Rao and his supporters were taken into custody from his residence and shifted to Kukatpally police station after they attempted to go to the programme venue. The party alleged that local residents, especially displaced families, were also prevented from attending the event.
BRS leaders stated that lands belonging to villagers near Nallacheruvu were taken for development works without proper notice or compensation. The affected families had been waiting for payment for nearly a year. They alleged that the detentions were aimed at stopping protests during the Chief Minister’s visit.
The police reportedly imposed Section 144 restrictions in parts of Kukatpally to prevent gatherings, even as the government held a public meeting in the area.
