BRS leaders detained as police step up preventive action amid ongoing Assembly session

Police detained several BRS and BRSV leaders, including student activists and spokesperson Manne Krishank, ahead of the Assembly session in Hyderabad. The crackdown, carried out without a bandh call, has sparked condemnation from BRSV leaders who termed it suppression of student voices.

Hyderabad: Police detained and placed several BRS leaders and BRSV student leaders under house arrest in the early hours of Thursday, amid the ongoing Assembly session. They were reportedly detained amid reports of BRS and BRSV leaders planning to lay siege to the Assembly, in the wake of the suspension of BRS MLAs from the Assembly.

According to BRSV State president Gellu Srinivas Yadav, who was placed under house arrest, the police went to the homes of student leaders around 5 am and detained them despite the BRSV not giving any Assembly bandh call. He condemned the action as an attempt to suppress the students’ voice and demanded the immediate release of those detained.

Karkhana Circle Inspector Anuradha and her team reached the residence of BRS spokesperson Manne Krishank to take him into preventive detention. She reportedly stopped his seven-year-old daughter while she was leaving for an examination and took away a relative’s phone, even though he was not at home.
