Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders have been placed under house arrest and prevented from visiting the Sanathnagar Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS) hospital in the city.

The BRS leaders wanted to visit the recently inaugurated hospital and inspect the services being offered to patients. However, since Saturday morning, several BRS MLAs, MLCs and senior leaders have been prevented from visiting the facility, with heavy police forces deployed at their residences.

Secunderabad Parliament constituency BRS in-charge Talasani Sai Kiran Yadav, Korutla MLA Dr K Sanjay, MLC Shambipur Raju and others have been placed under house arrest.

Heavy police deployment was made at the residence of Medchal district BRS president and MLC Shambipur Raju from 5 a.m. Objecting to the police deployment, he questioned whether an elected public representative was being prevented from visiting a hospital.

The government hospital was constructed during the BRS government and inaugurated by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on August 17. Spread over 22 acres, the hospital provides multiple specialities, including cardiac, renal, transplant and trauma care. It has 31 operation theatres and other advanced equipment.

Apart from providing outpatient services, doctors are learnt to have commenced surgeries at the hospital recently. Against this backdrop, the BRS leaders wanted to visit the facility and enquire about the services being provided to patients. However, they were prevented from doing so and placed under house arrest.
