Jayashankar Bhupalapally: Tensions flared at the Kannepalli pump house of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP) as senior BRS leaders staged a protest demanding the immediate restart of the motors. They demanded that the government release water and fill reservoirs and other water bodies.
Led by former Minister Koppula Eshwar, former MP B Vinod Kumar, MLC Puranam Satish, former MLA Putta Madhu and other leaders from the erstwhile Karimnagar district, the BRS cadre gathered at the pump house gate on Monday morning. They demanded that the government act immediately and save the Vanakalam (Kharif) crop or face the wrath of farmers.
The leaders attempted to force entry into the pump house to switch on the motors to lift water. However, the police personnel, who were deployed in large numbers, prevented them from entering the premises.
A heated argument ensued between the police and BRS leaders. With access denied, the BRS cadre staged a sit-in at the entrance, raising slogans against the Congress government’s neglect of the Kaleshwaram project.
