BRS leaders seek early completion of Palamuru-Rangareddy project
BRS leaders from the erstwhile Mahabubnagar district urged Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to expedite the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme. Speaking at a forum in Baltimore, they also sought action against Karnataka's projects and called for collective efforts towards Palamuru's development.
Hyderabad: BRS leaders from the erstwhile Mahabubnagar district urged Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to expedite the completion of the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme (PRLIS). They pointed out that more than two-and-a-half years had passed since the Congress came to power and asked him to prove his commitment to his home district.
Speaking at the Palamuru Development Forum meeting in Baltimore, US, on Monday, former Minister V Srinivas Goud said the Palamuru region continued to face drinking water and irrigation problems despite rivers flowing through the region. He attributed its backwardness to deficiencies in education, employment and agriculture.
Srinivas Goud sought the early completion of PRLIS to provide irrigation to an additional five lakh to six lakh acres. He also demanded that the Congress government intervene to stop illegal projects being taken up by Karnataka, which, he said, threatened water availability in Telangana’s existing projects. He said the BRS was ready to support the development of Palamuru irrespective of political affiliations.
Former Minister C Laxma Reddy called for collective efforts beyond party lines for the district’s development. He recalled the initiatives taken by BRS chief and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and urged the Forum to hold a special meeting with around 5,000 NRIs from Palamuru settled in the US to formulate development proposals.
Former Devarakadra MLA Ala Venkateshwar Reddy said education and irrigation were the two key pillars of the district’s development. He urged the Chief Minister to complete the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme and work to reduce migration from the Palamuru region.
Former Narayanpet MLA S Rajender Reddy urged the Forum to assist Telangana students newly arriving in the US. He assured that BRS representatives would attend future meetings of Palamuru NRIs and support the Forum’s initiatives
