Vikarabad: Former Ministers and legislators P Sabitha Indra Reddy and Satyavathi Rathod and other BRS leaders were stopped from heading towards Tandur to enquire about the Saipur Tribal Welfare Girls Hostel students, who are undergoing treatment for food poisoning.
About 15 students had fallen ill due to food poisoning in the hostel on Tuesday. They were admitted to Government Hospital at Tandur and while a few were discharged after treatment, a few are undergoing treatment at the hostel. When the former Ministers wanted to speak to the students and enquire about their health, they were denied permission by the police at Vikarabad.
Squatting on the road at former Chief Minister M Chenna Reddy’s statue, Sabitha Indra Reddy said even parents were not being permitted from speaking to their children.
“Why are the officials not permitting the parents to speak to their children? As opposition leaders, it is our responsibility to speak to the students and assure their parents about their wellbeing,” she said, adding that when Collector Prateek Jain was asked permission to let them interact with students, he had replied that protocol did not allow that.
“In that case, I am a MLA and former Minister and Satyavathi Rathod is a MLC. Why does one need protocol to interact with students and enquire about their wellbeing?” she asked, also questioning the Collector on why the students were being treated in the hostel when there were hospitals at Tandur and Vikarabad.
