BRS legislators walk out of Assembly PAC meeting over appointment of turncoat MLA Gandhi
Opposing the appointment of Gandhi, who had defected from BRS to Congress, as PAC chairman, ignoring T Harish Rao's nomination, they demanded a review of the government decision
Hyderabad: BRS legislators staged a walkout from the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) meeting held in the committee hall of the State Legislative Assembly on Tuesday in protest against the appointment of turncoat MLA Arekapudi Gandhi as the committee chairman.
MLAs Vemula Prashanth Reddy and Gangula Kamalakar and MLCs Satyavati Rathod and L. Ramana left the meeting in protest. Later talking to media persons at the BRS legislative party office, they called the appointment of the PAC chairman undemocratic and ignoring the main opposition.
Opposing the appointment of Gandhi, who had defected from BRS to Congress, as PAC chairman, ignoring T Harish Rao’s nomination, they demanded a review of the government decision.
Prashanth Reddy accused the government of undermining established practices of consulting opposition leaders for the PAC chairmanship.
Kamalakar condemned the appointment of Gandhi as chairman, which he said was against established traditions. Kamalakar vowed to continue boycotting PAC meetings until Harish Rao was appointed as chairman of the committee.
Satyavati Rathod criticized the decision to give the PAC chairmanship to Gandhi instead of an opposition member. She questioned the government’s rationale and demanded a change in the decision to respect long-standing traditions.
