Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi has officially lodged a complaint against ABN Andhra Jyothy anchor Venkata Krishna with Legislative Council Chairman G Sukhendar Reddy, condemning the anchor’s abusive and humiliating behaviour towards party MLC T Ravinder Rao.
Led by the Leader of Opposition in the Council, V Madhusudhana Chary, a team of BRS MLCs met the Council Chairman in his chambers here on Tuesday.
Later, speaking to media persons, BRS MLC Ravinder Rao said he was invited by the channel management to participate in a debate at 8 pm on January 23. As the BRS working president KT Rama Rao was being questioned by the SIT officials, the entire party and its leaders were under stress.
“However, based on leaks, a few news channels were broadcasting false information over the SIT officials’ inquiry. I specifically asked about the veracity of the information being broadcast on SIT questioning and condemned the false campaign being run by a few channels,” Ravinder Rao said.
The BRS MLC said that when questions were raised over news channels broadcasting such false information, ABN Andhra Jyothy anchor Venkata Krishna took strong objection, yelled at him and said “Get out of my debate”.
“My questions were not intended at any particular channel or individual but at the news channels which had broadcast such false information,” Ravinder Rao stressed.
The BRS MLC further said that he had participated in hundreds of debates and interviews but was never humiliated in such a manner. “I thank the entire Telangana community for condemning the anchor’s arrogant and abusive language. I also thank the BRS leadership, especially party chief K Chandrashekhar Rao and working president KT Rama Rao for backing me and boycotting ABN Andhra Jyothy,” Ravinder Rao said.
The Legislative Council Chairman assured that an inquiry would be conducted and action initiated as per rules, he added.
Madhusudhana Chary said it was not just about a BRS MLC but about the privileges and respect accorded to Council members. This amounted to humiliation of the entire Council, and an appeal was made to the Chairman to ensure such incidents do not recur, he said.
