Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi Minority Cell General Secretary Abdul Muqeet Chanda on Saturday demanded that the Congress government immediately clear pending applications and release financial assistance under the Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak schemes, alleging that nearly two lakh applications have remained pending for a year, causing severe hardship to economically weaker families.

In a statement, Chanda said the delay had defeated the very purpose of the welfare schemes, as families that had arranged their daughters’ marriages were still waiting for the promised financial assistance. Many parents, particularly those from poor and lower-middle-income backgrounds, had borrowed money from relatives, private lenders and other sources to meet wedding expenses, hoping to repay their debts after receiving the government assistance.

He pointed out that the uncertainty over the release of funds was adding to their financial and emotional burden at a time when they expected to begin a new chapter in their daughters’ lives.

Chanda demanded that the government publish a clear timeline for clearing pending applications, expedite verification and ensure that eligible beneficiaries received the assistance without further delay.

He called upon the Congress government to fulfil its election promise of providing one tola of gold along with financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh to eligible brides, and ensure that both schemes continued without political discrimination.
