Hyderabad: BRS MLA KP Vivekananda charged the Congress government with neglecting Hyderabad’s development while focusing on its proposed Fourth City/Future City project. He pointed out that only 25 per cent of the budget allocation to Hyderabad was released last year, leaving critical projects underfunded.
Participating in the budget discussion in the Assembly on Monday, Vivekananda demanded clarity on budget allocations and actual expenditure. He said of the Rs 2,654 crore allocated to GHMC, only Rs 1,200 crore was released. The Hyderabad Metro Rail received just Rs 300 crore out of Rs 1,100 crore, while the government released Rs 800 crore against Rs 3,385 crore allocated to HMWSSB. HMDA got nothing despite a Rs 500 crore allocation, he said.
He raised concerns over the Rs 1,500 crore allocated for Musi River rejuvenation, where only Rs 80 crore was released, even as 170 houses of the poor were demolished. He stated that due to misplaced priorities of the Congress government, real estate sector suffered severe damage in the State, forcing realtors to commit suicide.
Pointing out that the government allocated RS 2,654 crore for H City project in the 2025-26 annual budget, he said only Rs 18 crore was allocated for land acquisition. “How does the government plan to develop H City project without acquiring land for which just Rs 18 crore was allocated against Rs 400 crore sought by the authorities?” he asked.
Vivekananda also criticised the government’s contradictory statements on investments. “Over Rs 2.18 lakh crore in investments were announced, but no details on grounding. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy sending wrong signals through his statements that investors were not coming to Telangana have no trust in Telangana or the government has no funds,” he noted, demanding that the government release a white paper on the investments promised, units grounded and jobs created under the Congress regime.
Ridiculing the government’s ambitions to host Olympics, he said, “Revanth Reddy opposed Formula-E for Rs 50 crore, now he claims he will bring the Olympics with lakhs of crores. How can the government justify this? What is the plan?”
