Hyderabad: The Telangana Assembly suspended the main opposition BRS members till the end of the current session, on Tuesday, following their unyielding protests seeking suspension of the Congress legislators who for the death of the BRS president and former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

Having realised that the ruling party was pushed into a corner by the public statement of Shadnagar MLA Veerlapally Shankar that they were playing ‘chavu dappu’, for K Chandrasekhar Rao, the ruling party appeared to play a defensive card. Chavu Dappu is associated with the funeral processions. With the BRS members beginning a protest soon after the House convened, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and Legislative Affairs Minister D Sridhar Babu repeatedly asserted that the Congress party did not endorse such statements.

The Congress party wishes for the long life of KCR, they told the House at least twice each.

The Assembly session began on a stormy note with the BRS MLAs on their feet while holding placards demanding suspension of Members, who prayed for their party president’s death. As the slogans continued seeking justice, some of them moved into the well.

The Chair told the BRS working president KT Rama Rao to give a written notice on the issue. Rama Rao reminded the House that cases were being registered against the opposition MLAs for no fault of theirs.

As the BRS members did not relent, the Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka sprang to his feet to appeal to the opposition MLAs to refrain from violating the rules. He also used the opportunity to assert that the Congress party prayed for the long life of BRS president and wanted him to serve the State in the opposition.

The Legislative Affairs minister D Sridhar Babu too maintained that no member had prayed for the BRS president’s death. “We don’t endorse such statements. KCR should live for 100 years and stay healthy,” Sridhar Babu stressed.

Amidst this, SC, ST Welfare Minister Adluri Laxman demanded that there should be a debate on the BRS workers performing “Shuddi” (cleansing) act after Congress workers tried to play Chavu Dappu at K Chandrashekhar Rao’s residence in Erravelli on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the BJP MLAs held placards demanding a debate on 22 A row, while Congress MLAs held placards of “Shuddi”. In the middle of this sloganeering, Shadnagar MLA Veerlapally Shankar,.who made the controversial comments, was present in the House. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy was absent.

Amidst this den, Sridhar Babu moved a motion for suspension of BRS MLAs for the reminder of the session. The House was adjourned for a tea break.
