BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan demands Revanth Reddy’s resignation over power crisis
BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan demanded Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s resignation over Telangana’s power crisis. He sought a probe into alleged coal irregularities at Singareni, compensation for farmers with burnt-out motors and answers from the government at an all-party meeting.
Hyderabad: BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan demanded the resignation of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy over the power crisis in Telangana, drawing parallels between the Chief Minister and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. He said Congress leaders demanding Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation over alleged voter deletions should also seek Revanth Reddy’s resignation over the alleged disappearance of 40 lakh metric tonnes of coal from Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL).
He demanded a probe into the alleged coal irregularities and asked the Congress government to answer questions on the power crisis at the all-party meeting scheduled for Thursday.
Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan on Thursday, Sravan condemned threats to suspend power sector officials. He said penalising officers would not resolve electricity shortages caused by the government’s alleged failures in planning and management. He accused the Congress government of making officials scapegoats to evade responsibility for power cuts as farmers entered a crucial phase of cultivation and harvesting.
The BRS MLC accused the Congress government of weakening the power sector and politicising questions raised by BRS working president KT Rama Rao and BRS Legislature Party deputy leader T Harish Rao over coal supplies and power generation shortfalls. He also alleged that the government was attempting to hand over Singareni to the Adani Group by weakening the company financially.
Accusing the Congress government of failing to alert farmers in advance about El Niño, he demanded compensation for farmers whose electric motors had burnt out, a comprehensive inquiry into coal supplies and an explanation for the alleged Rs 60,000 crore in dues owed to Singareni.
He accused the Revanth Reddy government of bringing back the power crisis of the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh era, despite the previous BRS government having left behind a robust power sector.
