Hyderabad: BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan strongly condemned BJP leaders including Union Minister Bandi Sanjay and MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy for their reported remarks against students protesting over the alleged NEET paper leak.

Demanding their unconditional apology, he warned that the BJP leaders would have to face the consequences of making derogatory remarks against students fighting for justice.

He accused BJP leaders of attempting to malign the protesters by branding them as anti-nationals and alleging that they were backed by Bangladesh and Pakistan.

“Such remarks are irresponsible and intended to discredit a genuine student movement demanding accountability for the examination irregularities in the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) government,” he said. He warned them against underestimating the power of student movements.

Speaking to mediapersons at Telangana Bhavan on Sunday, Sravan said the protests at Jantar Mantar reflected an unprecedented student and youth uprising that spread across the country. He pointed out that the movement forced Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to resign and demonstrated the strength of democratic protests.

The BRS MLC criticised Konda Vishweshwar Reddy for allegedly making insensitive remarks suggesting that those agitating had no right to protest and in other countries, they would have been shot dead.

“Students are like burning embers. Do not provoke them or underestimate their strength,” he said, asserting that the agitation was conducted within the framework of democracy and the Constitution.

Stating that several students had died by suicide following the alleged NEET paper leak and that thousands of families had suffered mental trauma, Sravan said the protests reflected years of accumulated frustration among students and youth. He said the movement exposed failures in governance and questioned the Centre’s handling of the issue.
