Hyderabad: Legislative Council members of the BRS led by K Kavitha took out an innovative protest by wearing garlands made of chillis on the Council premises on Monday.
The protest was to demand that the government provide a remunerative price of Rs 25,000 to solve the problems of chilli farmers in the State.
They pointed out that chilli was cultivated in an area of 4 lakh acres last season. However, the same had come down by 2.4 lakh acres this season due to a sharp decline in prices.
The BRS MLCs demanded that the State government respond at least now and put pressure on the Centre and also that the government purchase the chilli at a minimum support price of Rs 25,000 per quintal through NAFED and MarkFed.
They also demanded that the government take steps to export Telangana chilli and to include Telangana chilli in the list of food crops from the Spices Board.
