Hyderabad: As the police withheld permission for its Yuva Sangrama Sadassu at Saroornagar stadium on Saturday, the BRS has decided to approach the court. The party accused the ruling Congress of stifling democratic dissent and preventing the Opposition from raising issues concerning unemployed youth and students.

Speaking to mediapersons on Friday, BRS Medchal district president and MLC Shambhipur Raju said the party had completed every procedural requirement for the July 18 meeting, including submitting applications to the District Collector, Sports Authority of Telangana State and Commissioner of Police, installing CCTV cameras and paying the prescribed fees. Despite this, permission was denied, he said.
He stated that the Police Commissioner stopped responding to calls from the BRS leaders, following pressure from the Chief Minister’s Office. He said the BRS had approached the court against the denial of permission and maintained that the youth meet will be held despite the hurdles. He said the ruling party was unwilling to face questions over promises made to unemployed youth.

Sudheer Reddy said the application for the event had been submitted on June 30 and that the police had sought additional information on six occasions, all of which was furnished. However, permission was still withheld even as the scheduled date approached.

He alleged that intelligence inputs suggesting a large turnout had prompted the government to withhold the permission. He also accused the Congress of failing to fulfil its election promise of providing two lakh jobs annually, delaying decisions on recruitment-related issues, suppressing protests by unemployed youth and students, and withholding fee reimbursement.

“Unless the government approves the permissions, the party will hit the streets and stage a protest at the same Saroornagar stadium,” he asserted.

BRSV State president Gellu Srinivas, senior leaders Gyadari Balamallu and Narsimha Goud, former BC Commission member Kishore Goud, and others were present.
