Hyderabad: Despite the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) urging the Election Commission of India (ECI) not to allocate symbols like the ‘Chapati Roller’, ‘Ship’, and ‘Camera’, which resemble its ‘Car’ symbol, these have been assigned to independent candidates in the Jubilee Hills by-election scheduled for November 11.

In July, senior BRS leaders B Vinod Kumar and Soma Bharat Kumar had represented to the State Election Commissioner and requested that the symbols ‘Chapati Roller’, ‘Ship’, and ‘Camera’ not be allotted, citing that their similarity to the ‘Car’ symbol could confuse voters.

On Sunday, District Election Officer R V Karnan released a list of 58 candidates and their symbols to the media. According to the list, Amboju Buddaiah, a resident of Khammam, received the ‘Chapati Roller’ symbol and is contesting from the Alliance of Democratic Reforms Party.

Praveen Kumar Arrolla, a resident of Yousufguda, was assigned the ‘Camera’ symbol and filed his nomination under the Praja Velugu Party. Shaik Rafat Jahan, from Madannapet, obtained the ‘Ship’ symbol and is contesting on behalf of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has allotted various symbols to independent candidates for the upcoming by-election. The symbols assigned include whistle, soap dish, pressure cooker, diamond, almirah, gas stove, road roller, crane, blackboard, carrom board, cot, briefcase, match box, gas cylinder, fruits like grapes, apple, basket containing fruits, bangles, frock, computer, and laptop, among other symbols.

Polling for the Jubilee Hills by-election will be held on November 11. Over 4 lakh voters are expected to participate in the by-election.
