BRS opposes Government decision to auction land near Durgam Cheruvu

The Telangana Government plans to auction 10.63 acres at Panmaktha village in Raidurg near Durgam Cheruvu. BRS leader T Harish Rao opposed the proposed auctions, citing alleged heritage, ownership, Waqf and legal disputes over the land.

Hyderabad: After failing to sell the lands in Hyderabad Central University due to stiff opposition from the student community and public, the Telangana Government has now set its eyes on a land parcel in the prime locality near Durgam Cheruvu.

The Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC) has now decided to auction 10.63 acres of land at Panmaktha village in Raidurg. The land parcel is next to Durgam Cheruvu.

This decision to auction the land is opposed by the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), which demanded that the auctions proposed to be held on August 17 and 21 be cancelled immediately.

The BRS deputy floor leader and former minister T Harish Rao has come down heavily on Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s decision to auction 10.63 acres of land at Panmaktha village in Raidurg. He charged the government with attempting to create third-party rights over disputed heritage land.

He demanded that the proposed TGIIC auctions on August 17 and 21 be withdrawn immediately. He warned prospective buyers that purchasing the land could lead to legal complications in the future.

In an open letter to the Chief Minister on Thursday, Harish Rao said the land in Survey No. 83/1 had been identified as a heritage site under G.O.Ms.No.4. He questioned the government’s decision to auction it despite alleged ownership, heritage, Waqf and legal disputes. He pointed out that then TPCC president Revanth Reddy had approached the court in 2020 seeking protection for the same land.

“How can you now allow an auction that creates third-party rights?” he asked, accusing Revanth of adopting different positions in opposition and in power. He suspected it was another attempt to hand over valuable land to the Chief Minister’s kith and kin.

He slammed the Chief Minister over a series of attempts to auction and monetise lands at Kancha Gachibowli, Lagacherla, Maulana Azad National Urdu University and now Raidurg heritage land.

The former Minister alleged that 6.2 acres in the same survey number had earlier been put up for auction at around Rs 237 crore an acre, prompting SBI to approach the court. He said the matter was currently before the High Court and questioned the move to auction another 10.63 acres from the same survey number, without any regard for the judiciary.

He demanded a comprehensive examination of heritage, revenue, survey and Waqf records before any auction. He also questioned the government’s authority and hastiness in selling heritage land worth around Rs 2,000 crore when the land ownership was under dispute.

Calling on Revanth Reddy to act as the Chief Minister, not a realtor, Harish Rao said the government should protect public and heritage assets for future generations rather than pursue their sale.
